Arrogance in Music

Stay humble

The Kings Letter

Artists love to talk about authenticity, culture, and humanistic ideals. We see ourselves as creators, preservers, and advocates of something bigger than ourselves.

And yet, too often, the art world is filled with arrogance, power plays, and people stepping on each other just to feel important.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? The very people who claim to stand for beauty and meaning are sometimes the worst offenders when it comes to respect and basic human decency.

The Hard Truth:

Talent doesn’t excuse arrogance. Skill doesn’t justify treating people like they’re beneath you. Power is not a license to abuse.

But you’ll meet plenty of people who act like it does.

The Choice:

You can either get sucked into this toxic cycle, becoming just another entitled artist who thinks their work makes them superior.

Or you can live the values you claim to stand for.

DJ Scooter said it best:
"It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice."

What To Do About It:

  1. Hold yourself to a higher standard. Don’t just talk about integrity—live it.

  2. Refuse to play the arrogance game. You don’t need to be the loudest to be respected.

  3. Set the example. The best way to counter toxic behavior is to not contribute to it.

Your Challenge:

Next time you’re in a room full of egos, ask yourself: Am I adding to this nonsense, or am I rising above it?

Be the artist people actually respect—not just the one they have to tolerate.
