There is a beautiful park near where I live that I like to walk through.
It has a lake in the middle, plenty of trees, and more animals than you’d expect in the middle of a city. Mostly pigeons, but also fish, hedgehogs, ducks, birds whose names I definitely don’t know, and swans.
One thing I see almost every day is people feeding them white bread.
And I always wonder…
Mate, white bread isn’t exactly good for you. Why are you so convinced it’s good for the bird?
Anyway.
Most people know swans as the great romantics of the animal kingdom. Along with penguins, they’re famous for forming long term pairs.
Well…
It turns out that swans love to have some action on the side. They’ll form a lifelong pair, raise cygnets together, but sneak off in the middle of the night to another swan’s nest, shag for a minute, and go back to their nest. Isn't that wild?!
My point is: never trust a bird with a long neck and my recording of The Swan is out if you want to give it a listen.
