200 People Is Not “Small”
Concert day
The Kings Letter
Today’s a good day. I’m in Lithuania, about to play a duo concert for violin and cello. Two hundred people bought tickets to come hear us.
Now, let’s address the lie that creeps into every artist’s mind:
"Only 200 people? That’s nothing. Real success is two thousand."
No. That’s garbage.
The Hard Truth (for performers):
If 200 real, living, breathing humans chose you over everything else they could’ve done tonight—you’ve already won.
They woke up.
Went online.
Saw your name.
Spent money.
Got dressed.
Drove through traffic.
Sat in a hall to listen to music you are about to create.
You’re not just playing for numbers. You’re playing for hearts.
You’re not just filling seats. You’re filling time with meaning.
And if you ever start chasing more without respecting what is, you’ll lose your fire.
Your Challenge (as a performer):
At your next concert—whether it’s 20 or 2,000—ask yourself:
Would I still give 100% if this were the last audience I ever played for?
If the answer isn’t yes, you’re not doing it right.
A Note for the Listeners
To all those people who chose to spend their night with us: thank you.
You may not realize it, but your presence matters more than you know.
You bring the space to life.
You carry the energy that feeds the performance.
You choose depth over distraction—and that’s rare.
The Hard Truth (for listeners):
You’re not just watching art—you’re co-creating the experience with your attention.
The way you sit, breathe, listen, react—it shapes the concert just as much as the bow on the string.
In a world that moves faster every day, your choice to stop and truly listen is powerful.
Your Challenge (as a listener):
Next time you attend a concert—ditch the passive mode.
Listen with intention.
Stay until the silence after the last note fades.
Let it hit you.
Then ask yourself:
What did this music move in me? And what will I do with it now?
See you backstage.
